The Society is leading two walks in 2017 within the area and dates of the Simonsbath Festival. The first is on 10th May 11am – 1pm led by Society Chairman Rachel Thomas. ‘Mining and Mystery at Wheal Eliza’ is a short walk along the River Barle to hear the history of the Knights, mining in this part of Exmoor and the tragic mystery at Wheal Eliza. Followed by optional pub lunch or bring a picnic. The second is led by Rob Wilson-North ‘In Search of John Knight’s Lost Mansion and Gardens’ on 26th May 1.30 – 4pm. This walk is followed by optional tea at Simonsbath House Hotel, former residence of the Knights. Please book tea through the Simonsbath Festival. This walk links with Rob’s talk on 24th May on this subject for the Simonsbath festival. See simonsbath.org.uk. Both walks start at Ashcombe car park, Simonsbath.
