Brian Chugg Art Award 2008

Brian Chugg (1926-2003) was one of a small group of people who launched a Petition, in 1958, to prevent the afforestation of The Chains on Exmoor. From this initiative The Exmoor Society came into being. Since this time the Society has continued to fight to protect Exmoor's landscape, which is uni1ue. It aims to increase people's awareness of it's special qualities so that future generations can continue to be inspired by this landscape which is of outstanding universal value.

Brian was an Art lecturer at the North Devon college for many years and also a writer. He walked on the moor regularly and during the 1960s spent much time up there painting the varied landscape.

We hope that this award will encourage students from ages eleven to eighteen, to observe Exmoor in every season and be moved to produce a painting based on some aspect of its landscape.

Conditions of entry

There are two age groups for a prize: each winner will receive £125.

Group 1: Age 9 to 12 years

Group 2 : Age 13 to 16 years

The work should be two dimensional and suitable for mounting andframing. It can be in any medium and must not exceed 59 by 41 cms. It must be presented unmounted. A label on the back of each picture must clearly state:
