THE EXMOOR SOCIETY is a registered charity dedicated to the conservation, protection and enjoyment of Exmoor National Park.

The Society exists to promote and organise concerted action for the conservation and enjoyment of the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of Exmoor. It welcomes everyone who supports these purposes and wants to enjoy the special qualities of this unique National Park.

The Society is an Action Group and

• acts as an independent watchdog by promoting the conservation of the landscape, wildlife, cultural heritage, and historic environment and thus sustaining the outstanding universal value of Exmoor;
• encourages the understanding and enjoyment of its special qualities by visitors and local people; and advocates the responsible use of open country and the Rights of Way network;
• promotes upland farming and the local economy and community
• monitors the work of the National Park Authority and all planning applications;
• supports schools and colleges through awards and a range of activities;
• organises public meetings and seminars to discuss matters of common interest about Exmoor, arranges lectures, walks, visits to places of interest;
• undertakes social events for members and their families and friends;
• gives free to its members a Newsletter, Annual Report and the Exmoor Review a well illustrated magazine of high quality;
• provides a reference library and deals with enquiries at the Parish Rooms Dulverton on weekdays from 10am to 12 noon.

It is with great sadness that the Society announces the death

of its President Victor Bonham-Carter.

Victor died on 13th March 2007

His memorial service was held at Milverton Church

on 26th March 2007
