Sir Antony  Acland KG. Born March 12th 1930, died September 8th 2021

It is with great sadness that the Exmoor Society has heard of the death of our President, Sir Antony Acland. His obituary appeared in The Daily Telegraph, on Friday 10th September, and in The Times, on Saturday 11th September. They outline his stellar career, rising to become the “Diplomatic service head who stood his ground with Mrs Thatcher and … ambassador to the US”. His funeral will be held on Thursday 30th September at Exford at 2pm, with a memorial service nearer to London, to be announced later.

Sir Antony has been President of the Exmoor Society since 2007, and was to be reappointed at the charity’s AGM on Saturday 18th September. He was a very active President for 14 years attending most Trustees’ meetings, Society annual events such as the Spring Conference, presenting awards, meeting members, and so much more. He will be greatly missed and the Society will celebrate his presidency at a later date.

Meanwhile, our thoughts are with Lady Acland and family, to whom we send our deepest condolences.

Rachel Thomas, Chairman.
