Dogs: No dogs, please
Key Information:
Weather permitting, join us for a walk to observe Red Deer, the largest wild land animals in England, rutting in their natural environment.
Red deer have survived on Exmoor since pre-historic times. The area was once a Royal Forest which protected the deer to maintain a hunting ground for the king. There are about three thousand deer on Exmoor, living on moorland and farmland, and using the woodlands for cover.
The walk follows a picturesque route, exploring the beauty of Exmoor, with a chance to spot the famous native species during their annual breeding season.
This walk will be led by Charles Harding, someone with more knowledge than anyone of Exmoor’s wildlife from his 25 years as deer manager at the Holnicote estate. An early start but this is an opportunity not to be missed!
Children age 10+ are welcome but please understand that everybody must be able to remain quiet when requested, to ensure enjoyment for all.
