Planning

All Local Planning Authorities have to develop Local Plans which shape how development should be undertaken within their district.

Local Plans provide policy guidance to Planning Officers and local authority members who ultimately make decisions on whether planning applications should be approved or refused.

The Society is involved with all planning matters within the National Park ranging from policies in the Local Plan to dealing with development management. We monitor every planning application and make a decision whether or not to become involved.

Site Visits

A site visit is always undertaken before any comment is made. We mainly raise concerns but do object sometimes where we consider the development is detrimental to the landscape. Occasionally we will look at applications outside the Park if we consider they might affect the setting of Exmoor.
