Fundraising For Our Future
Help Guarantee The Exmoor Society’s Future
For the past ten years, The Exmoor Society has been based at Number 34, High Street, Dulverton, a building kindly loaned to us by another charity that shares our commitment to Exmoor. It has provided a home for our office, library, and the Exmoor Society archive – the most comprehensive record of Exmoor’s landscape and life, built up over many years.
Last year our landlord generously offered to let us buy the building at a significant discount to the market value. Buying it secures a permanent home for our work and ensures that our office, library, and archive remain together in Dulverton. Given the value of this opportunity, trustees have gone ahead with the purchase.
Why We Need Your Support
Thanks to our financial reserves we were able to purchase Number 34 — an important step for The Exmoor Society. However, this investment has reduced the funds available for our wider work. Membership subscriptions cover only around a third of our annual costs, and even before buying the property, we had already drawn on reserves. Alongside our core mission to protect Exmoor’s landscapes and environment, we are committed to expanding our activities — helping more people connect with the area’s history, beauty, and future. With a portion of our reserves now tied up in the building, we need your help to ensure this work continues.
How You Can Help
We are seeking charitable donations to help rebuild our reserves. Every gift, large or small, will help us to:
- Protect and promote Exmoor’s unique landscape and cultural heritage.
- Expand our educational and outreach work.
- Safeguard and grow our archive — a vital record of life on Exmoor.
If you feel able to contribute, we would be very grateful. And if now is not the right time, perhaps you might consider remembering The Exmoor Society in your will. If you would like to know more about how your support would be used, we would be very happy to discuss this further — or to welcome you to our “new old” office at Number 34, which we hope will remain our home for years to come.
