The Exmoor Society Library

The Exmoor Society has an extensive library of over 1,000 books as well as holding around 500 books from the personal collections of authors Hope Bourne and Victor Bonham-Carter, both of whom played significant roles within the society.

We have been collecting books about Exmoor, its landscape, natural history, archaeology, and many other topics for over sixty years. Although mostly non-fiction, we do have a wide ranging collection of fiction by Exmoor writers all located around Exmoor. A list of all our books can be viewed via our Library catalogue below.

Writing in the Exmoor Review of 1969, Victor Bonham-Carter gave an account of what he felt were the most important nineteenth and early twentieth century non-fiction books to have been published on Exmoor. Find out his recommendations (all of which we hold in our library)  via his article below. We have also provided our full library catalogue for you to browse. If there are any titles that you would like to view, please contact our archive team by emailing info@exmoorsociety.com.
