We are delighted to support Exmoor Society member Richard Blackmore with his new art exhibition, Painting Exmoor, which will take place in Dulverton between Saturday 11th – 17th July.
Richard’s art is truly captivating and focuses on both the landscapes and iconic wildlife of Exmoor.
He moved to North Devon 38 years ago and immediately started exploring. With an OS map on the study wall, he set about trying to walk all the big open spaces, penetrate the deep combes, and find the secret corners of Exmoor. After producing a book of pen and ink sketches along the River Barle and Exe, he concentrated on trying to capture the essence of Exmoor in paint. He remarks:
“The colour of the hills varies so much with the seasons, and the sky and weather make a huge impact. A flat scene on one day can be transformed by another. I mainly work at home from the thousands of photos I take, usually these days from dog walks. Exmoor is a jewelled landscape: I love the contrast between the wild top of Five Barrows, the lushness of Woody Bay and the sequestered snugness of Porlock Vale.”
The exhibition will be held at the Dulverton Heritage Centre between Saturday 11th and 17th July, open from 10 am – 4.30 pm.
