A new monthly feature for 2026, we’ll be shining a spotlight on one of our wonderful volunteers, staff members, or trustees who help protect and promote Exmoor National Park. First up this month is our office manager, Gill Whitehead:

“I have been The Exmoor Society’s office manager since February 2022.  I grew up in Exeter and was previously a partner in the private client department of a large Exeter legal practice. Over the years, I gradually migrated upstream, moving to a village on the edge of Exmoor in 2001.  I retired from law in 2016 after a 25 year career, lived in France for a few years and then returned to Exmoor. I now live in Dulverton and have a very short commute!

I love my job – the office is always busy. I organise many of our events, look after day-to-day financial matters, act as a PA to our chair, support our treasurer, trustees and archive team, deal with wide ranging queries from members, the public and other organisations, and make sure everything in our office runs smoothly.  I feel I am giving back to Exmoor in a small way, which is very rewarding.  I work as part of a very supportive and dedicated team who ensure I am always fully caffeinated, and our members are a truly lovely group of people.  My rescue dog Moleskine, has enthusiastically taken on the role of office dog, and when not at work, we are usually to be found out walking in a wild place on the moor.”
