Mr Bruce McIntosh

Committee Member

Bruce was born in the West Indies but spent his childhood in Devon. His wife, Sophy, grew up in Somerset, though the pair met in London. It was always their hope to return to their roots, an ambition they achieved 25 years ago when they moved to a farm in the Brendon Hills, where they raised their family. Bruce spent his career in investment management, having worked in the City for the merchant bank SG Warburg before joining fund group Perpetual. When the family moved to West Somerset he joined an Exeter based start-up, which grew into a business employing more than 100 people across the South West.

He has also dedicated time to the local community; alongside his work with the Exmoor Society, he is a trustee of Dunster Festival, as well as the Somerset Community Foundation, where he chairs the investment committee that oversees its endowment assets along with those of the Devon, Dorset, and Wiltshire Foundations. Bruce also volunteers at Citizens Advice Somerset, advising primarily on debt and benefits, and is a trustee-director of an Employee Ownership Trust for a local company. Bruce has a great love of the outdoors and the open spaces of Exmoor. He expects his main contributions to the Society to be on financial management.
