Mark’s military family came to North Devon in the 1940’s and he has lived just outside Bideford for over 20 years with his GP wife and family. He read Engineering at Cambridge University and, after starting as a design engineer at JCB, has spent his career as an entrepreneur developing and leading various small to medium-sized manufacturing businesses across the UK.
He is now focussing his energy and resources on helping to address climate change and biodiversity loss – he is on the advisory board of the Devon Environment Foundation and on the Caen Wetlands Steering Group having helped Devon Wildlife Trust to acquire Horsey Island on the Taw Estuary.
He is the managing partner of the Pabbay Farm partnership, a 2,000 acre island in the Outer Hebrides, a haven for ground-nesting birds. He is a lifelong keen birdwatcher, a very amateur beekeeper, a Deputy Lieutenant of Devon and in nomination to be High Sheriff of Devon from April 2026.
