Dr Steven Emery

Committee Member

Co-opted, for election at AGM 2024

Steven is a Senior Lecturer in the Sociology of Agriculture at the Centre for Rural Policy Research, University of Exeter. He also lends his expertise as a social scientist to Rothamsted Research and works part time from the North Wyke Farm Platform near Okehampton. Beyond his research specialisation in agriculture, he is also a Director of the Rural England Community Interest Company and works on research and engagement activities that support the oft neglected interests of rural communities.

He is relatively new to the Southwest, and therefore to Exmoor too, having cut his research teeth in the northern uplands of Yorkshire! He has a passion for understanding and facilitating the complex management issues associated with farmed, rural, and protected landscapes and looks forward to delving into the unique challenges being faced and addressed by the Exmoor Society and those that it represents. Steven lives with his young family in South Devon and spends any spare time with them gardening, exploring and other rumbustious pursuits.
