Take action to protect and conserve the Exmoor National Park:

Recycling Plastic Tree Guards

We met with tree guard manufacturer, Tubex to explore the possibility of a dedicated recycling scheme on Exmoor.
In 2023, The Exmoor Society became a Community Ally of Plastic Free Exmoor, supporting their mission to reduce plastic waste across the region. Alongside improving our own practices at the office and our events, we help promote their beach cleans and wider initiatives, which make a significant and lasting impact on Exmoor’s landscape.
More recently, we have been working with Plastic Free Exmoor and the Exmoor National Park Authority to address the plastic left in our landscape from tree guards. While these guards play an essential role in protecting young trees from browsing animals and harsh weather, they can end up littering our landscape if not removed once trees are established. We met with tree guard manufacturer Tubex to explore the possibility of a dedicated recycling scheme. As tree and hedge planting continues across Exmoor, initiatives like this will be vital to reduce plastic pollution on Exmoor. Watch this space!
