The Exmoor Society Big Nature Day

At the end of May, The Exmoor Society hosted the Big Nature Day, a chance to come together to celebrate nature and promote inclusion in the countryside.

What a fantastic weekend we had celebrating all things nature at the end of May. On the eve of the Big Nature Day, we hosted an evening symposium which explored the important topic of inclusion in nature. We were delighted to welcome keynote speaker Dr Mya-Rose Craig, who shared her inspiring journey from young birdwatcher to one of the UK’s leading advocates for equality and inclusion in the natural world.

The conversation continued with a panel discussion that examined the barriers that prevent people from connecting with nature, along with practical solutions and opportunities for positive change. From increased networking opportunities, better access to grants, and improved engagement with young families, the evening produced a fascinating and thought-provoking discussion, offering much to reflect on as we consider the future role of The Exmoor Society.

The following day we welcomed over 400 people to historic Nettlecombe Court for a packed programme of nature fun. With fascinating talks from leading conservationists, including Derek Gow and Flemming Ulf-Hansen, and creative workshops and guided walks, there was something for everyone to enjoy. We are hugely grateful to everyone who made the day possible, including all of our wonderful exhibitors and the superb band of volunteers who helped the day run so smoothly.
